It is with profound sadness that Sullivan Ward announces the passing of our friend, colleague, and former partner, Charles E. Randau, on August 23, 2019.
Charlie’s legal career spanned over fifty years, most of which was served at Sullivan Ward. Those of us fortunate enough to work with Charlie will remember him as a formidable trial attorney, an accomplished mediator and arbitrator, and a skilled negotiator, who for many years served on the Oakland County Mediation Panel. He was also an active member of the American Arbitration Association; the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel; the Association of Defense Trial Counsel; and the Michigan Insurance Lawyers Counsel. He was a long-term instructor at Wayne State University Law School in legal research and writing and the Student Trial Advocacy Program.
In a life filled with many professional accomplishments, Charlie was probably best known for his kindness, his genuine desire to help others, and his remarkable ability to put people at ease during times of anxiety. His gregarious personality, and his tendency to stop and chat with people whether he knew them or not, made Charlie the embodiment of the expression “A stranger is just a friend I haven’t met yet.” A confirmed optimist, Charlie was also an enthusiastic and active member of the Porsche Club, an inveterate bow tie wearer, and above all, a consummate gentleman.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Charlie’s wife Barbara; their son, Chad and daughter-in-law, Lisa.
